Hyoj/Jonica
We’ve been back from Ghana for about a week now (we were in Tamale, Ghana for about 3 weeks doing a service project encouraging education in the nearby villages) I really miss the people and the whole atmosphere of Ghana but it is still nice to be back in Frankfurt, my home away from home. When I came back, I felt like I was coming back to a totally different city; trees were lush with green leaves, air was fresh, and the weather was the kind that you could just lay in the grass and think about nothing in. Spring had definitely arrived. This past weekend was packed with fun as well; we enjoyed Frankfurt’s yearly Nacht der Museen and also went to a concert for a band called Bishop Allen from NY (I must say that it was nice to hear some familiar American accents.)
Anyway, enough bragging about the fun in Frankfurt. So now it’s time to buckle down and get to work with my personal project. I’m basically organizing a day of dance workshops where youth of different cultures can interact with each other and see how dance can help them go beyond their cultural barriers. Right now I am in the process of finding a venue, participants, and teachers for the event. It’s kind of frustrating because I have contacted quite a few people about my project but haven’t had much response back. My goal is to have a venue for my project, a source for participants, and at least one teacher before next Monday….I don’t know if it will happen but I want to give myself some kind of deadlines so that I keep moving forward. It’s easy to get really stressed and overwhelmed trying to organize projects on our own but I think at the end of it, all of us will really feel a sense of independence and accomplishment.
